Newton County Sheriff Shannon indicted for terroristic threat, turns self in

Newton County Sheriff Eddie Shannon turned himself in at the Tyler County Jail in Woodville last Friday morning after the Newton County Grand Jury indicted him on a third degree felony charge of terroristic threat to a public servant last Thursday. He was released on a $10,000 bond.

Shannon is accused of making threats against the county judge and members of the commissioners’ court. Reports say Shannon attended a Newton County Commissioners’ Court meeting, became frustrated with the court, went back to the sheriff’s department and allegedly threatened to shoot the county judge and the county commissioners.

Shannon has been sheriff of Newton County since 2012.
