Sign-up for city, school board races underway thru Aug. 18, Center, San Augustine included

The sign-up deadline for a place on the ballot in the Nov. 4 city and school board election is just over two weeks away. Holding elections this fall will be the cities of Center and San Augustine, as well as school board elections in the Center, Excelsior and San Augustine ISDs. Prospective candidates have until the close of business, Monday, Aug. 18 to return the proper paperwork to either their respective city halls or school administration offices. Nov. 4 is also General Election day, and to help cut-down on election costs, city's and school's had the option to adopt the day to hold their elections.

 

In the City of Center, there are four council positions up for re-election in November, they include: at-large spots held by Leigh Porterfield and Jim Forbes; Dist. 2 Jerry Lathan and Dist. 4 Charles Rushing.

 

The City of San Augustine is electing a mayor and all five council seats, including spots held by Mayor Leroy Hughes, and council members, Joe VerHalen, Mike Malone, Claudia Caberalis, Velencia Price, and Pam Teel.

 

Center school trustees positions up for election are those of: Dr. Dixon Golden, Ortega Cartwright, Jim Sawyer, and Deborah Chadwick.

 

Excelsior ISD board members having their positions expire are: Bennie Russell, L.D. Eddins, Bo Barbe and James Miles.

 

While San Augustine ISD Trustees with expiring terms are: Orvin Garrett, Ryan Garcia, Edwin Henly and Charles Donald Boyett.

 

Some important dates to remember for the Nov. 4 election. The first day to apply for ballot by mail is Sept. 5; the last day to register to vote in the election is Oct. 6; and Early Voting will take place Oct. 20 thru Oct. 31.
