Sports Round-up 7/30/14

At the SFA Board of Regents meeting yesterday, SFA’s president Dr. Baker Pattillo announced that former SFA athletic director Steve McCarty has been named Athletic Director Emeritus. It’s the first time the university has honored a former athletic director. McCarty retired from SFA in 2005 after 21 years serving the university, the last 15 as AD. McCarty’s also a former board chairman at SFA.

 

The Center Dixie Boys' 14U state baseball champions will enter Dixie League World Series in Bossier City at 7 p.m. Saturday night when they open up against Bossier City at Tinsley Park. The double-elimination tournament will feature 12 teams from across the South. The start of high school football practice is just a few days away, and the Center Roughrider Athletic Department is issuing equipment thru Thursday. The first day of practice for all high schools across Texas is Monday, Aug. 4. Center will start at 9 a.m.

 

The Shelby County Youth Football League will meet at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1 at Center's Pizzeria. A representative from each town will need to be in attendance.
