Three avoid serious injury when car is struck by train at Center crossing

Serious injuries were avoided Thursday afternoon when a train struck a car at a railroad crossing in Center.

exas Department of Public Safety Trooper Jade LaVergne reports the incident took place around 3 p.m. on County Road 2050, between Loop 500 and Hwy. 87 south.

The driver of a 2014 Dodge Dart, 22-year old Omattie Swindle of Shelbyville was ticketed for failing to stop at a marked railroad crossing. Trooper LaVergne says there were two other passengers in the vehicle, 41-year old Angela Booth and a three-year old female.

The train reportedly struck the driver's rear side of the car. All occupants were transported to a Nacogdoches hospital by ACE EMS with undisclosed injuries.

The locomotive is reported to be owned by Timber Rock Railroad. The conductor and engineer say they had used the horn in approaching the crossing.

The crossing does not contain a signal gate, but was clearly marked.
