REVISE: Lightning said to be cause of fire that destroys Center family's home Monday

A lightning strike during yesterday’s late afternoon thunderstorm is reported to be the cause of a fire that destroyed a family’s home on County Road 2230 in Center.

The Center Fire Department, with assistance from the Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze at the residence of Austin Lucas and his three sons after 5:30.

Reports say the fire was started by a lightning strike, as firemen arrived to find the flames coming through the attic of the two-story brick and wood structure.

Despite efforts by personnel, the fire spread as thunderstorms remained in the area.

There was no one at home during the incident, and no injuries were reported.
