Timpson City Council to consider water bill increase at today's meeting

When the Timpson City Council meets at 5:30 this afternoon, they're to possibly consider a monthly minimum increase for residential and commercial water accounts.

Mayor Debra Smith says the proposed increase for residential customers would go up $5 to a $15 a month minimum, and from $15 to $22.50 for commercial. The rate increase would not affect the per gallon pricing or effect the minimums or rates for sewer.

Mayor Smith will also present the preliminary department budgets for the next fiscal year and revise if needed; and accept the revised budget proposal, if needed.

She's also to give a brief statement regarding the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court by Councilman George Grace against her.

In other agenda items, street repair on Marcus Street should be completed soon, and bids on repairs on Bremond and Todd Streets should be made within three weeks.

City Secretary Barbara Hunt says the city is taking bid quotes from the Texas Municipal League Governmental Risk Pool for health insurance, since Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas has increased premiums by $2,200 a month.
