Garrison business owner arrested on tobacco tax issues

The owner of a Garrison convenience store has been arrested on two felony tobacco-related charges after his indictment by a Nacogdoches County grand jury.

It’s reported that 48-year old Mohammed Hossain Khan of Nacogdoches is being held at the Nacogdoches County Jail on two counts of third-degree felony possession of tobacco products tax. His bail is $400,000.

The indictment says the crimes took place from 2010 to 2012. Count 1 of the indictment says Khan possessed “tobacco products on which a tax of more than $50 is required to be paid.”

The second count alleges Khan “intentionally or knowingly” failed to report to the Texas State Comptroller’s Office the purchases of untaxed tobacco products.

Khan reportedly owns the old Little’s store in Garrison.
