FOURTH OF JULY UPDATE: Tenaha Independence Day Celebration, other area events

The Tenaha Businessmen's Club and HOPE Project are having the first Tenaha Independence Day Celebration Family Festival Friday in downtown Tenaha.  The HOPE Project's Kyndal Banks says organizers wanted to expand on events that were already in place for the Fourth of July in Tenaha.

 

Events are planned for the downtown Tenaha Square, and include a vendor area; Little Miss/Miss Firecracker pageant at 2:30 p.m.;) Among the other activities are a Veteran Recognition; American as Apple Pie Eating Contest; Patriotic Pet Parade; Red, White and Bounce Park; Yankee Doodle's Den for big kids; and a 50/50 raffle.

Later on that day, American Legion Post 520, Tenaha Businessmen's Club along with several other Shelby County busineses will present the Tenaha Independence celebration at Tiger Stadium. The event is free and gates will open at 7 p.m.. The Calvary Boys will provide the entertainment at 8 p.m., followed by a large fireworks display at 9. The Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the annual Timpson Frontier Day celebration starting tomorrow night and going through the weekend. Among the events will be The Sonny Tippett Memorial Gospel Singing at 7 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church. Also Thursday night, the all-u-can ride carnival will get underway at 6 p.m. till 10 p.m. on the Timpson Square, as armbands are $15 in advance and available at the Timpson Public Library, or $18 the night of. There’s entertainment Friday night with Curtis Daniel and Dale Cummings downtown, and a full-day of events Saturday starting with the parade at 10 a.m. Featured Saturday will be a Relay for Life Walk, parade, pet show, car/truck show, pea shelling, domino tournament, homemade ice cream contest, food and craft booths, gun-fight re-enactments, a laser light show, and street dance with “A Pack of Strays. Huxley Bay Marina is hosting a Fourth of July celebration event, including garage sale and craft booths, children activities, the band Ashton Hill and a fireworks display that night.

 

The Broaddus Fire Department’s Fourth of July Firework Show will be held at the Broaddus Baseball Complex next Friday. The show starts as the sun goes down with a band and more colors than ever. There will be concession with snacks and drinks.

 

The annual Nacogdoches Freedom Fest is Friday, July 4 in downtown. Festivities kick off at 5 p.m. with fireworks at dark.

 

The City of Jasper’s Independence Day Celebration will be Saturday, July 5 at the Gazebo at Sandy Creek Park. There will be live music, a dunking booth, food vendors and contest. A fireworks show will start at 9:30 p.m. Admission is free.
