Sheriff's office releases statement on Joaquin near-fatal swimming incident

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department has released more information in regards to a near-fatal swimming pool incident in Joaquin last Friday afternoon.

 

According to a press release from Sheriff Willis Blackwell, at approximately 4:55pm a 9-1-1 call was received from Kendra May of Joaquin, in reference to a two-year-old falling in the family swimming pool.

 

The child's father saw her in the pool, dove in the water and removed her from the pool. He immediately initiated CPR.

 

The release stated Tommy Boyett, a neighbor and member of the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department, arrived on the scene immediately. The fire department was called in to assist and the child was breathing while in the ambulance at 5:19pm.

 

Life Air Rescue arrived around 5:26pm and transported the child to Willis-Knighton hospital in Shreveport.

 

The child was released from the hospital on Saturday morning, June 21, in good condition.

 

Sheriff Blackwell said thanks to trained personnel and quick thinking and action by her parents, a near tragedy has a very happy ending.
