Authorities release more information on Center home invasion

We told you yesterday Center Crime Stoppers was offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect wanted in the home invasion incident Saturday morning on Hwy. 7 West in Center.

Billy Don and Janice Hughes were assaulted at their home between Forest Lane and Biggars Street. Sheriff Willis Blackwell says the 911 call came in just before 6 a.m. Saturday from Mr. Hughes saying a black male clothed in a devil suit, attempted to attack Mrs. Hughes while outside watering plants.

Upon hearing Mr. Hughes, the suspect then attacked him. Mrs. Hughes ran into the house and out the front of the home to a neighbor residence to call 911.

Billy Don Hughes sustained injuries to his face and mouth when the attacker hit him with a hand gun.

Sheriff Blackwell urges anyone with information on the incident to contact his office. The sheriff added, “Incidents like this are usually the result of drug use. Hopefully this individual will be apprehended and that the prosecutor and judges will execute swift and harsh punishment on them and others. We don’t need this type of individual in Shelby County.”

Anyone who has information regarding this crime should call Center Crime Stoppers at 936-598-SAFE (7233) or submit a tip online at www.centercrimestoppers.com.

Remember you don't have to give your name. All calls and cash rewards are completely anonymous.

Rewards will only be paid on tips submitted through the Center Crime Stoppers system.
