Center City Council to consider "No Parking" Zone at Mini Park

When the Center City Council meets at 5 this afternoon, they’ll consider establishing a “No Parking” Zone along Henrietta Street adjacent to Center Mini-Park.

City Manager Chad Nehring said the city has received numerous calls and concerns regarding the obstruction of traffic due to individuals not using the parking lot, but rather opting for the convenience of parking on the street next to the playground and pavilion. Nehring said since there was no land available for additional parking, the council will consider creating a “No Parking” Zone on the north (residential) side of Henrietta Street, directly across from the fenced park.

Also on today’s agenda, Center City Council will consider the Economic Development Corporation’s suggestion to reimburse Tenet Healthcare for site development assistance at the new 24-hour emergency facility at Loop 500 and U.S. 96 South. Nehring said this has to do with Tenet connecting to the City’s sanitary sewer system, and is beyond the standard budget already approved.

Center City Council will also consider and possibly take action on approving the Shelby County Appraisal District Board Fiscal Year 2015 Budget as being one of the participating county entities.

The council is also expected to add a reserve officer to the Center Police Department, which Nehring said would be replacing a position, vacated from inactivity and is not increasing the size of the reserve force. He added that Andrew Williams will be replacing Chris Wheeler, which will give the Center PD nine reserve officers; and council will reappoint Barbara Bittick to the Center Housing Authority Board.

Prior to this afternoon's meeting, the council will have a special workshop session at 4 for preliminary Budget discussion.
