CISD superintendent responds to teacher turnover situation

On this newscast yesterday, I had a story concerning the recent high-number of teacher resignations in the Center ISD and what seems to be the blame.

We quoted a parent, Traci Tomlin Willoughby, who’s attempting to get a town hall meeting together to address the turnovers and other issues. Ms. Willoughby said one of her concerns was that of the current school board, there’s a minimal number with children in the CISD.

There’s a correction to be made in reference to the number of current CISD board members that have children attending school in the district. The story should read two trustees.

In addition, Superintendent Dr. James Hockenberry did respond following the airing of the story. He said the number of resignations the district has seen is not atypical for this time of year, especially with 400 employees, noting it’s a transitional period time for educators. He added he could not speak for those leaving the district and it’s his general understanding that there are many reasons people choose to depart. Dr. Hockenberry said he does not follow social media. However, if there are concerns regarding the district, he strongly encourages those to come and speak with him. He added he’s more than willing to listen to those concerns.
