Tenaha City Council hears garbage collection, help with water issues at meeting

The Tenaha City Council discussed several items of business at their meeting Monday night, including garbage collection and assistance with the city’s water department.

 

Mayor Orinthia Johnson says the council heard a presentation from Frank Polley with East Texas Regional Landfield in regards to collection of the city’s garbage. Mayor Johnson said Jeff Hooker is presently doing the service and doing a good job. Polley was interested in having the governing body consider his garbage service. He was invited to make a presentation of proposal on June 30.

 

In addition, Stacy Cranford of Gary was also invited back later this month with a proposal to assist the city of Tenaha in returning to compliance with the water system. Mayor Johnson said after paying the $38-thousand fine recently to TCEQ, and other issues, the city was looking for assistance with paperwork and other utility matters.

 

During council members’ comments, Tommy Rinkle advised the council he was still circulating a petition for consideration of calling an election to go to a city manager form of government; and the council advised city employees to watch overtime hours in order to cut expenses.
