Texas Court of Criminal Appeals receives Tiede's paperwork for release

It was revealed last week that the paperwork that could lead to the release of convicted killer Bernie Tiede was received by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. The court is to make the final ruling on whether Tiede will be permanently released. Last month, Judge Diane DeVasto released Tiede on a $10,000 bond, which stipulates that Tiede must maintain steady employment, surrender his passport and not leave an area surrounding Austin. Tiede must also live in an Austine apartment provided by Richard Linklater, the director of the film, “Bernie”. Tiede was convicted of killing his fried and Carthage millionaire Majorie Nugent in 1996. He was convicted of Nugent’s death in 1999 and sentenced to life in prison.
