Sports Round-up 6/13/14

In sports,

It appears the UIL state basketball tournament will be headed south from Austin to San Antonio beginning next season. Members of the UIL Legislative Council voted earlier this week to relocate one of the state’s signature sporting events – which has been a fixture at the state capital for more than 90 years. If an agreement can be reached between the UIL and the Alamodome, the change of venue would go into effect for the 2014-15 school year. Also, cheerleading will be a UIL sanctioned event, starting with a pilot program in 2015-16.

The 22nd annual Darren Wilson Golf Classic will be held tomorrow at Center Country Club. Organizers say this annual tournament is held to raise funds that go to the Darren Wilson Scholarship Fund. The event has raised over $140,000.00 to benefit area students. There will be a large silent auction as part of the activities. The tourney is a six man scramble. Lunch is being cooked and served by the Shelby County Cookers before the tournament kicks off. For more information you can contact Center Country Club.

The on-site late registration fee is $70 and begins at 7:30 a.m. Conque will hold a camp for high school athletes on June 22 and July 27 at SFA’s Homer Bryce Stadium.
