San Augustine pursuit ends up in Shelby County, arrest made

On the arrest report yesterday we had mentioned the arrest of a Nacogdoches man by San Augustine authorities for Driving While Intoxicated-2nd offense and evading arrest with a motor vehicle. More details are now known about the incident.

The arrest resulted when San Augustine Police began a pursuit of 25-year old Robert Taylor Barnhart after he was clocked going over 130 mph headed north on Hwy. 96 in San Augustine in a newer model Cadillac.

It’s reported that S.A. PD officer Cameron Nichols began pursuit of Barnhart into Shelby County, where he turned onto City Lake Road, or County Road 1006 into a private drive, in an attempt to hide from multiple agencies that had joined in on the chase.

There was a passenger in the vehicle, 53-year old Miriam Fern Simmons of Nacogdoches, who was not reportedly charged.
