The San Augustine County Sheriff's Office is saying a teenager shot and killed his father Wednesday night during an argument involving his parents.

Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham says 52-year old Dalton West received a single gunshot wound to the chest at a home on County Road 3120 in the Broaddus area around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Chief Cunningham said deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call and arrived to find West dead. During the investigation deputies learned that West and his wife had been involved in a heated argument when the 16-year old son retrieved a gun from inside the home and confronted west.

Chief Cunningham said at some point, a single round discharged into West's chest.

He added at this point, there 's not enough evidence for criminal charges against the teenager.
