According to an article on ShelbyCountyToday.com, 23-year old Briana Cartwright was cooking when she stopped to get her toddler son to sleep, when she fell asleep as well. The report says Ms. Cartwright awoke to the house full of smoke, and while attempting to remove the pot from the stove, grease spilled on her.

She reportedly received 3rd degree burns to her right side, 2nd degree burns to her chest and left leg, and burns to her left arm.

An emergency crew from ACE EMS was dispatched via 9-1-1 around 1:30 on FM 2694. It’s reported Shelbyville first-responder Steve Dudley responded when he was flagged down by a motorist with the burn victim. A landing zone was established at Shelbyville High School.
