San Augustine to Implement Grease Trap Ordinance Jan. 1, 2015

Beginning Jan. 1 of next year, the City of San Augustine will have a grease trap ordinance. City Manager Bruce Milstead said something had to be done to help cut costly replacement of lift-station pumps, since the pumps don’t handle grease well, prolonging the city’s sewage line infrastructure, and also address an issue with grease flowing into the city streets every time it rained.

Milstead added that commercial businesses, nursing homes and schools would be properly notified of the new grease trap ordinance.

In addition, he said San Augustine was in negotiations with Pineywoods Sanitation for outside garbage collection in hopes of getting out of the business and saving money in that department.
