Local Sports Round up 5/21/14

The Garrison Bulldogs will play Troy in a Class 2A state baseball regional semi-final series starting Friday night in College Station. Game 1 of that series will be at 7 p.m. at A&M Consolidated, with Game 2 at 4 p.m. Saturday. The winner will move on to the Region Final against the Central Heights/Salado winner.

 

The Central Heights-Salado 2A regional semi-final series will start Friday night in Franklin. Game 1 is at 7 p.m., with Game 2 at noon Saturday.

 

In Class 1A regional semi-final action, defending state champion Price Carlisle will play Evadale in a one-game playoff at 6:30 Friday night at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin. The winner has the winner of the Douglass/Harleton region semi-final in the Region Final next week.

 

No. 1 state-ranked Douglass has a three-game regional semi-final series with Harleton in Kilgore at Driller Park beginning Thursday afternoon. Game 1 is at 5 p.m., with Game 2 to follow 30 minutes later. If necessary, Game 3 is at 6 Friday.

Price Carlisle knocked Douglass out of the state playoffs last season in the Region Final enroute to the state championship.

 

If you're keeping up with the Class 3A regional action, Caldwell will play Silsbee in a best-of-three region semi-final series in New Caney. Game 1 is at 7 Thursday night, with Game 2 at 7 Friday. Caldwell defeated Center and Carthage in the playoffs.

 

It's Physical Day for Center ISD, as the Center Athletic Department is holding physical examinations for all 6th Graders, 8th Graders, and 10th Graders that plan to be in any Center Athletic Program in the 2014-2015 school year. A reminder: any other students who are not in those grades, and who do not have a physical on file need to get a physical as well if they plan to be in athletics next year. The physical will cost $20. Checks will be accepted and must be made payable to Center Athletics.

 

The annual Preston Football Camp will be held Saturday, June 7 at Roughrider Stadium. The camp hours are from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information, contact Dwight Preston at 598-2470.

 

The 61st annual Shelby County Sheriff’s Posse PRCA Rodeo is June 6 & 7 at 7:30 each night, sponsored by Wright Chrysler Dodge Jeep. Presale tickets are $5, and can be purchased at Boles Feed, Triple J Feed and Wright Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Center. Kids 6 and under get in free. There will be a calf scramble each night for kids 10 and under with cash prizes. On Saturday night only, anyone wearing a western hat will receive $1 off their admission ticket at the gate. Entertainment will be provided by three different East Texas Equestrian Drill Teams. The Rustlers, the 4-8 year olds; The Young Guns, the 8-14 year olds; and The Roughriders, age 15 & up.
