KJAS Radio and the City of Jasper is in the process of making the last preparations for the upcoming annual Jasper’s Independence Day Celebration to be held at the City of Jasper’s Sandy Creek Park on Marvin Hancock Drive, starting at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30th. Marvin Hancock Drive will close at 3:00 p.m. so vendors will be able to set up their tents and trailers in the street. The fireworks display will be at 9:30 pm.
Lots of great events will be going on that day! The Jasper Police Association will have a basketball dunking booth with local officers participating benefiting the Christmas “Toys for Tots” Drive. So now is your chance to dunk Jasper’s finest and help raise money for their cause. Drey Limbrick and volunteers will have a basketball goal set up to help raise money for a local kid’s football group so come see if you can hoop the net. Mooney Fun Jumps & More will have two water slides and a jumpy house, so bring the kids swim suits so they can get wet! Harvest Church will be doing stick on tattoos for the children along with other activities. Renee Kelly Ellis is sponsoring the annual Watermelon Eating contest this year for the children along with winning trophies for their age bracket. KJAS will once again sponsor the Hula-Hoop contest for kids 4 to 12 years old with trophies too. The local Boy Scouts troop 128 will have “All Goes in Wax” booth where you can make designs with your hands and help them raise money. “U.S.A. Packing and Shipping Store” along with “Texas Fallen Heroes” will have lighted toys and patriotic memorabilia for sale.
The Jasper Lake Sam Rayburn Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a VIP seating Raffle that is going on now. Win a VIP seating and dinner for ten under the Gazebo! Tickets are available now $8.00 each or 3 for $20.00 so go by the Chamber office for more details at their new location on Highway 96.
JerryAttricks Band, from the Golden Triangle will go on stage at 6:00 p.m. playing Classic Rock, Blues, Soul, and Country. The group has been together since 2007’ and includes members; Jerry Hawthorne, Lonnie Holmes, Brian Rushing, Bubba Moore, and our very own Randy Fuller that works for Bill Dover & Company.
Come hungry because Marvin Hancock Drive will be loaded with food vendors: You’ll be able to taste everything from Dip- N-Dots Ice-cream, Ruddy’s Pork-a-Bobs, popcorn, hamburgers and fries, nachos, chicken strips, corn dogs, burritos, quesadillas, fresh lemonade, water, sodas, and more!
Jennifer Cuellar with Harvest Church will sing the National Anthem right before the spectacular fireworks show at 9:30 pm. and Eddie Hopkins, President of “JEDCO” Jasper Economic Development Corporation will lead in prayer. Craig George, “Pyro-man”, from Campti, Louisiana will be there as in years past to shoot the show choregraphed to fireworks music!
Bring your lawn chairs, umbrellas, blankets, sunglasses, hats, in other words anything to be comfortable during the show and please stay hydrated so you don’t get over heated and have a heat stroke.
